Mandatory Dog Training Courses in Zurich
New legal requirements from June 1, 2025
Under the revised dog law in the Canton of Zurich, all dog owners are required to complete a practical dog training course – regardless of the dog’s size or breed.
We offer these mandatory lessons fully in English.
The course includes:
- At least 6 private lessons
- Individual one-on-one training
- Practical everyday exercises
- Training adapted to your dog’s learning pace
The mandatory dog training sessions usually take place at Irchelpark in Zurich.
The course must be completed within one year after taking ownership of your dog.
Our training focuses on:
- Everyday safety
- Calm behaviour in daily situations
- Basic obedience
- Lead walking
- Recall training
- Understanding dog behaviour and communication
We support you step by step in a calm and positive learning environment.
Private Puppy Coaching in Zurich
Calm and personalised puppy support for expats and new dog owners
In the Canton of Zurich, the mandatory dog training course officially starts when a puppy reaches the age of six months.
However, from our experience, the most important foundations are already established from the very first day a puppy arrives in its new home.
Many new dog owners deliberately look for calm private puppy coaching in Zurich instead of traditional puppy group classes.
With our private puppy start coaching, we aim to provide you with the practical knowledge and confidence to guide your puppy calmly, clearly and safely right from the beginning.
In many cases, just 1–2 lessons are already enough to establish the most important foundations correctly. Additional lessons are of course possible if needed.
We do not offer traditional puppy group classes.
The focus is instead on everyday life, building a secure bond, and helping you understand how to guide and support your puppy in daily situations.
Topics may include:
- Building a secure bond and mutual trust
- Understanding your puppy’s needs and communication
- Calmness and everyday life training
- Boundaries and guidance
- First steps of lead training
- Meaningful socialisation in everyday situations
- Handling insecurity or unwanted behaviour
Especially with very young puppies, the coaching often takes place directly at your home, where everyday situations naturally occur.
The focus is therefore less on “training in the park” and more on helping your puppy settle calmly into its new environment and daily routine.
One lesson lasts 60 minutes and costs CHF 100.–.
Depending on your location, additional travel costs may apply.
We mainly operate in Zurich and surrounding areas.
